"Funky Lunches"

I came across a website called "Funky Lunches" where they show creative sandwiches such as these:

This goes above and beyond cutting the crust off your kids' bread (which I don't agree with, BTW). Sure, these are cute, but who on earth has time for this? This is the statement on their site:

We hope to produce a book of our Funky Lunches to show you how to create them and how to incorporate new foods into your childs meal by distracting them from what they are actually eating.

Sorry, but I think parents should teach their kids to eat what they are given, even if it doesn't look like the latest cartoon character. Why do children need to be tricked into eating? What happened to the PARENT being in charge? Who's running the house if parents make alternate meals for the child who doesn't like what's for dinner? I guess I'm just venting because I feel strongly about teaching my children to be grateful for what they receive. I don't want my kids to be the ones that say they don't like something before they even try it.

Maybe I'm a "mean" mom, but my kids will continue to get regular shaped sandwiches in their lunches (crust included), vegetables on their plates, and the same meals as mom and dad.

O.K., I feel better now that I've gotten that off my chest! All that sparked by a picture of a "Funky Lunch"!

I saw this website as well and I couldn't agree with you more.

Indeed they are cute, but I'm with you. I've taken it a step further. If my kids choose not to eat what I prepared for them, they go to bed early with nothing. So, you see, I definitely win the mean mom award over you!

Oh and you are a super mom...in fact all mom's are SUPER MOM'S!!

Whoa, Em! Have something to say? I do this for my kids for every meal we eat together. They are precious and worth the extra effort of cutting, cooking, designing and creating these wonderful and yummy masterpieces. I even crocheted finger puppets out of spaghetti for thumbkin, pointer, tall-man (you get the idea) - just for fun - for each child. Another time, I carved an ice sculpture replica of each child's face AND another sculpture of what I thought they would look like in 10 years. NOt to mention edible clothes I make out of fruit I grow and cook, press and shape.
This is getting crazy stupid, isn't it. Although I have to pull some tricks for my kids to eat some foods or meals, I am perfectly okay letting them go hungry until the next meal is served.

I guess I am a mean mom too because I follow the motto "you get what you get and dont throw a fit". this is just doing too too much.

Cute, yes. Ridiculous, yes! We use that same motto Melinda! That & "tough noogies!" Although on Valentines Day I cut the pancakes & sandwiches with the heart shape cookie cutter, so I guess I am guilty.

AY-MEN. The crust is the best part, for one thing. I always look for a piece of sacrament bread that's sporting some crust. I also agree that working too hard to convince kids to eat their food is a path to insanity. No pampering around here. They're lucky to be eating!

I think some moms that have their 2.2 children must have too much time on their hands. Or they're trying to impress the "other" moms.

Crazy stupid.

GRRRRRRR! Angry mothers unite! better leave the crust on! That's where all the nutrients are, right?! It couldn't possibly be the EXACT same crap as the rest of the loaf, just a little darker (not that we have any room to talk Ella just eats a hole in the middle of her sandwiches).
